The area of the anode that is actually producing electrical energy that passes through the ACTIVE area of the membrane. This can be seen on an old tubular style anode, in which the front surface of the anode is deteriorated, while the back half is like new. ThinCells wear evenly across the entire face of the anode. It is important to understand that a tubular cell only uses about half the anode purchased.

This is the area of the membrane, in which the electrical energy actually passes through. Since electricity takes a path of least resistance, only the membrane area between the part and anode is actually effectively used during operation. The remaining is just structural.

Some manufactures of Tubular cells claim that having more membrane area versus anode area is important and critical. However there is no mention or calculations in electro deposition that this applies too.

E-Coat is dependant on Anode Area with respect to anolyte cells. Extra membrane does not have any benefit electrically. Thus, if you are looking to run efficiently and use what you pay for ThinCells will do the trick.
